When I introduced Paul to my father, he asked him if his intentions towards me were honourable or dishonourable? Paul was quite surprised by this, as he didn’t realise he had a choice.

Following the tradition, before we announced our engagement Paul went to ask my father for my hand in marriage. He said that it was fine by him, providing he took the hand that for the last 20 years had spent most of it's time in his wallet!
