Linda and Paul had known each other for only a short time before they became engaged. You might think that Carol and I, of all people, would be anxious, and if it had been any other man except Paul, then yes, we should have been ill at ease. As it happened, Paul was a person that we were able to know very quickly, just as Linda had found, and the person that Linda and I came to know, we liked very much indeed. We recognised in him the qualities that he had in common with Linda, and it was clear that they were made for each other.
